Alcohol: How many units are in my drink?

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

This is a quick guide to units and calories in the most common alcoholic drinks.

Working out your alcohol unit intake can sometimes be tricky, especially when there is such a range of alcoholic drinks of different strengths available. Make sure you read the label to establish the ABV percentage of a drink, as this indicates the alcohol content. Remember, the stronger the alcohol the higher the calories, so choosing lower strength alcoholic drinks can be very helpful in keeping you to your alcohol and calorie target.

If you have a usual tipple of choice, we recommend you work out its unit and calorie content so that it's easier to keep count through out the week. You can use online calculators to measure the units and calories by visiting expert sites such as the Drinkaware website.
